Welcome to Acorn Class 2022/2023!
“We are looking forward to sharing our adventures with you!”
Each day the children have lots of opportunities to explore, imagine, create and learn through their own play as well time with an adult to learn new skills and knowledge and apply these through practical play based activities. Wherever possible our planning will take account of the children’s developing interests.
We want to encourage the children to become independent learners and thinkers.
Their learning is focused around the three prime areas and four specific areas of the Early Years Curriculum.
These are:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical development
- Literacy

Summer Term
Welcome back. We hope you had a super Easter holiday. During the Summer Term, we shall be learning about our new topic 'How does my garden grow?' As you can imagine, we shall be doing lots of outdoor learning. Please find the topic web for the Summer Term below.
This week, the children have been busy planting sunflower seeds and sweet peas. The children carefully buried the seeds in soil in pots and then covered them with more soil. After a little watering, the pots were placed in a safe, sunny space. Now all we need to do is wait!
Tomorrow is the Coronation of King Charles III so we celebrated by having a fish and chip lunch in paper bags in the hall and a parade around the school to admire each other's crowns. Watch the slide below to see our wonderful crown creations.
Acorn Class has continued to be busy, busy, busy right up to the end of the half term. Have a look at the slideshow below to see what they have been busy learning.

The children tried again providing more detailed instructions and a sandwich was made! Everyone enjoyed a piece. Watch the slide show below to see what happened!
We hope that everyone had a lovely half term holiday. The children have returned to school ready to learn. We have started the half term focusing on the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Have a look at the photos below to see the fantastic small worlds that the children made.
We have been out and about in the school grounds hunting for signs of new life. The children were so excited to see lots of buds, snowdrops, crocuses and frogspawn,
In D.T. we have been learning about different mechanisms. We have learnt how sliders move sideways or up and down and how levers rotate. The children went on a 'Mechanism treasure hunt' around the school and in the school grounds looking for levers and sliders.
The children used their knowledge of different mechanisms to design and make some super slider Mother's Day cards and some Whale and the Snail lever pictures.
This week we had some visitors to Acorn Class. As you can see the children were delighted.
We had All Stars Cricket in school today. We had a great time playing head, shoulders, knees and cones, and then learnt how to hit and catch a ball. We finished by playing cricket in three teams. We have a fantastic morning.
